Home. For many, it’s a place of security, warmth, confidence, and community.

A place where one can put down roots and plan a steadfast life. Those lucky enough to experience home, as a place of goodness, are blessed. But many others aren’t so blessed. Whether running away from pain, inability to make payments, called away by mental illness or substance abuse, those living without a home are God’s children and should be respected as such. We are called to respond to them with dignity, support, and companionship.

Corporate Stance

Our Corporate Stance on Homelessness and Insecure Housing

As Christian disciples, formed in the Vincentian Spirit, we believe that all people have a right to safe and humane living conditions. Therefore, the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of the United States and Canada adopt a stance to affirm and ensure this belief is realized for all.

To this end, we commit to . . .

  1. Identifying the root causes of homelessness and insecure living and advocating for changes in systems that produce these conditions;
  2. Continuing to educate ourselves on the issue and sharing our knowledge with others;
  3. Collaborating with Vincentian and other like-minded local organizations that share our vision to develop a comprehensive plan to house those who are homeless or in insecure housing and ensure the highest rate of long-term success;
  4. Promoting an environment of respect, kindness, and dignity for persons experiencing homelessness
  5. Praying for those living with insecure housing and those with the ability to change conditions that will lead to safe and humane living conditions for all.
